Timber Loss from December 1 Windstorm

The storm occurred on 12/1/2010. These photos document areas in Williston that were particularly hard hit and in some cases are now inaccessible on foot.

Photos were taken on 12/30/2010, from 1:00 - 2:00 PM.
Frames ending '-9nnn' are in sequential order; frames ending in "-2nnn' were taken with a second camera body and are sequential, but not in order with others. Photos have been digitally processed to enhance visibility of windfall.

The approximate locations and orientation of each photo are in captions; where possible, I've oriented to a residence or landmark. When trying to orient the location and direction of photo, note that tree Shadows are pointing N-NE; almost all windfall is oriented indicating E or E-SE wind.

Our route was as follows: we flew in clockwise circles beginning at Nob Hill and progressing East over Bradley Lane, Partridge Hill, Oak Hill Road, Old Creamery Road, Mud Pond, South Road, East Hill Road, Christmas Hill, and the Richmond road; we then flew South to Lake Iroquois along South and Oak Hill Roads and circled Lake Iroquois; then made several circles over Catamount Family Center before returning at higher altitude to Bradley Lane and the Mud Pond area before landing.

Approximately 1/3 of the photos we shot are posted here; if your property isnt shown, check the route and numbering of the photos (click on 'EXIF' and see last 4 digits) to see if there are additional frames that might help you. Email if you would like me to upload these additional frames--be sure to tell me the number range you would like to see. Also, I've uploaded these at only 40% resolution; if you need higher res images, let me know.

Please leave comments in the comment bar to help identify residences or roads that may be familiar to you--especially where I have left it blank or asked for help. I particularly need help with the East Hill, Christmas Hill, and Richmond properties.

Please contact me with questions or if you would like access to the high-res originals. Property owners are welcome to download photos; contact me for instructions.

I have never been able to see the extent of the damages. I know we had to cut downed trees to drive home. After we had walked down the hill cutting the road clear we turned around to go home and found that another tree had fallen above us.
