The Old Brick Coffeehouse

featuring

Garrett Brown, Busted Brix,
and Pale Fire

The Brick Church Music Series concert on January 16 featured High School-age musicians in an event we called the "Old Brick Coffehouse." Garrett Brown, a 14-year old CUV freshman from Hinesburg, opened the show. Garrett was this year's First Night Burlington 2009 Rising Star Talent Search winner; a wonderful singer-songwriter who played both original music and covers of popular tunes.

Busted Brix, the driving 8-member indie/ska band from Vergennes, followed Garrett with their horn-driven 'riot of sound'. BB was the Burlington Teenfest 2008 Battle of the Bands winner.

Pale Fire, the engaging indie/celtic crossover band from Williston/Colchester, closed the evening with a spectacular show of original and traditional tunes. Pale Fire was the First Night Burlington 2008 Rising Star Talent Search Winner.

The well-attended evening was a benefit to support the Williston Community Food Shelf and Big Heavy World, Vermont's nonprofit resource supporting independent music. The evening was organized by CVU Seniors Dylan Hudson and Ryan Simmons, for both a part of their CVU Grad Challenge projects (Ryan with the Food Shelf, and Dylan for BHW).

The event was very generously supported by The Rack Warehouse, and The Luggage Warehouse, including Burton raffle prizes donated by the Luggage Warehouse. Michaela Wallace won the Burton backpack; Neil Boyden won the camo-themed Burton duffle. Ginger Isham also won a pair of "rest-of-the-season" tickets to the 3 remaining Brick Church Music Series concerts. All of the Brick Church Music Series concerts are generously supported by the Williston Observer, AdAstra Recording Studios, and the Town of Williston.

If you would like to be added to our email list for news and reminders about upcoming events, just email us at [email protected] and we'll add you to the distribution list. Here's a link to the Town of Williston website with more information about upcoming events and tickets.

The best way to view these photos is to click on the 'slideshow' button in the upper RH corner of your screen. You can order prints online if you're interested; the cost includes only the lab costs plus shipping, or about $2 for an 8"x10" print. To order, go to the photo you want, open it by double clicking, and hover your mouse cursor over the upper LH corner to get an ordering menu. The watermark you see on the photos online will not appear on prints.

Performers who would like access to the digital photos (e.g. for CD, press/promotional, or website art, etc.) may do so at no cost--please contact me about this. Likewise, the photos may be used on a courtesy basis for press coverage or promotion of the Brick Church Music Series; please contact me if you would like access for that purpose. In either case, all I ask is correct attribution ("David Yandell") for printed or published photos.
